Your NISM Series V-A certificate is valid for 3 years from the date of your exam. Before it expires you have two renewal routes.
Set a reminder well before the expiry date. The CPE route is meant to be done while your certificate is still valid, and a lapsed certificate can mean going back to the full exam.
NISM's candidate instructions say you cannot hold more than one valid certificate for the same exam series at once, except when you renew during the last 12 months of the current certificate's validity. Sitting the exam early while your certificate is still active can lead to cancellation of the certificate and debarment from future exams, so time your renewal inside that final window.
A valid certification is a condition for working as a mutual fund distributor, and a lapse can disrupt your AMFI registration (ARN) and the trail commission attached to it. Check AMFI's current rules for the exact consequences.
| Series | Validity | Renewal route (as published by NISM) |
|---|---|---|
| V-A | 3 years | NISM CPE for Mutual Fund Distributors, or retake the exam |
| XV | 3 years | NISM CPE, a one-day programme of about six hours completed in the 12 months before expiry |
| X-A | 3 years | Retake the exam, or pass the X-C renewal examination before expiry |
| X-B | 3 years | Check nism.ac.in for the current renewal route |
| V-D | 3 years | Check nism.ac.in for the current renewal route |
Rescheduling rules that apply to exams (up to two times, at least four days before) also cover CPE programmes. See fees and rescheduling and the exam pattern for every series.
3 years from the date of the exam.
Yes, through NISM's CPE programme for Mutual Fund Distributors, completed before the certificate expires. You can also renew by retaking the exam.
NISM allows renewal during the last 12 months of validity. Sitting the same exam while an earlier certificate is valid, outside that window, can lead to cancellation of the certificate.
A valid certification is required for mutual fund distribution, so a lapse can disrupt your AMFI registration and commissions. Renew before expiry and check AMFI's current rules.
