NISM V-A Certificate Validity: 3 Years — Then What?
Your NISM Series V-A certificate is valid for 3 years from the date you pass. Before it expires you have two renewal routes:
- Re-examination: take the V-A exam again — full fee, full syllabus, same 50% pass mark.
- CPE programme: attend the NISM Continuing Professional Education programme before your certificate expires — no exam, but it must be completed within the permitted window (check current NISM rules).
The mistake that costs people their ARN
Letting the certificate lapse can disrupt your AMFI registration (ARN) and, with it, your trail commissions. Set a reminder at the 2.5-year mark: the CPE route is cheaper and faster than a re-exam, but only if you act before expiry. Miss the window and you are back to writing the full paper.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long is the NISM V-A certificate valid?
3 years from the date of passing.
Can I renew NISM V-A without re-taking the exam?
Yes — through the NISM CPE (Continuing Professional Education) programme, provided you complete it within the permitted window around expiry. Check current rules on nism.ac.in.
What happens to my ARN if my NISM certificate expires?
An expired certificate can invalidate your ARN status with AMFI, disrupting your ability to earn commissions. Renew before expiry.
